Question : My 7 year old daughter has a black/brown spot in the hard palate. I just noticed it a couple of days back. It is not raised, painful or itchy and there is no history of injury. It seems to be fading although I can't be sure. What should I do?

Hello,

I have read your query and gone through the images attached of your daughter's hard palate. As far as i have observed in picture it looks pigmented oral lesion like Melanotic Macule or Vascular lesion like Hemangioma .

You should consult oral surgeon for clinical examination and investigation of this lesion to get proper diagnosis and treatment plan.. I am suggesting you to consult oral surgeon for clinical examination because many pigmented lesions can be clinically diagnosed on the basis of size , shape , color of the lesion.

I am worried whether this can be a malignancy like melanoma. There is a risk of Covid-19 on stepping outside. Does this lesion need an urgent biopsy? Or can I wait and watch for some time.

As far as I have observed in the attached picture it doesnt seems like Melanoma.

I know you are worried about your daughter, but I will say that you need not be overly worried.

I understand the risks of visiting a nearby dentist in the current circumstances, so I suggest to wait for some time and observe lesion if it is fading or not; and if it is not fading or there is a change in lesions like increase in size, shape, color or your daughter feel any symptoms of pain or bleeding or any symptom like fever, tiredness then consult your dentist and go for clinical examination and investigation like a biopsy.
