Brief Answer: Pregnancy test Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for the query. Delay in periods can occur due to many causes. So, confirmatory test is needed to come to one conclusion. As it is one week over after expected date of periods, in case of previous regular periods, she can go for urine test for pregnancy. If previous cycles are irregular, better to prefer blood test for pregnancy for accurate result. If test comes positive: Let her consult gynecologist once and get examined. General examination is needed to rule out anemia, thyroid abnormalities etc. Then weight, height, blood pressure etc should be noted. She has to undergo investigations like hemoglobin, blood sugar estimation, urine microscopy, blood grouping and typing, serological markers, ultrasound etc. She has to take nutritious diet involving cereals, dhal, vegetables, fruits, milk, eggs, chicken, fish etc. Better to avoid excessive oil, salt etc. She has to start folic acid supplementation. Better to avoid journey, intercourse etc in first trimester, especially if there is history of previous abortions. Unnecessary medicines also to be avoided in early pregnancy. She can continue with regular antenatal checkups. For more details : http://srsree.blogspot.in/2012/03/antenatal-care-of-pregnancy-without . html Hope I have answered your query. Doctor, Its a happy moment to share that today's Pregnancy test for my wife is positive. Her last period started on 2nd November 2013. So its her 5th week right? If its right what will be your valuable guidance for her in terms of food/travel/work and other precautions. She is feeling tired, sleepy and she had back/hip pain. She is working as a accounts specialist in a company. At this time we need to take Folic acid, vitamins and proteins right. Please guide us if you can recommend some tablets or other supplements? Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer: Nutritious food Detailed Answer: Hi, Congratulations to both of you. According to your wife's last menstrual period, for today the gestational age is 5 weeks 5 days. She can take all nutritious foods according to her choice. If she is having nausea, vomitings etc, taking antiemetics with your doctor's advice can help. Along with regular diet she has to take milk, fruits, vegetables, eggs, fish etc. Better to avoid traveling for long distances in first trimester. If traveling is must, better to choose train journey. She can do her regular work as usual. Two hours rest in the afternoon and eight hours sleep in the nights are advisable. Some amount of tiredness can be there in pregnancy due to increased metabolic needs. Dividing the food into three main meals and two snacks, and taking at frequent intervals can decrease the problem. Continuous sitting can lead to backache etc. Better to walk for 5 to 10 minutes after every one to one and half hours of sitting. If pain persists, she can use local analgesic cream. Up to 16 weeks, folic acid tablets are enough. With your doctor's advice, you can choose folic acid tablets like folinext d, folvite etc. She can drink anyone of the health drinks like Me and baby, protenex, b protein, mother's horlicks etc. Take care.
