What Tests Should Be Done For Occipital Pressure?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: I wrote a question asking what other testing should I request to have . I am a nurse who has been suffering with constant head occipital pressure, cognitive changes, vision changes since hitting the back of my head. This pic is of the 1st MRV that I have had. Should I request an angiogram? What more detailed test is required?

Brief Answer:
MRI of brain with angiography should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM

First you need proper clinical examination.Headache may be due to many reasons like post traumatic sequel, tension, hypertension, eye problem, cervical spine spondylosis etc.

You need few routine investigations like routine hemogram,RBS(Random blood sugar),Lipid profile,Renal function test,Liver function test, cervical spine AP/lateral view(to rule out spondylotic changes).

MRI of brain with angiography should also be done.It will rule out any organic lesion in brain.Requirement of further investigation depend upon findings.

Tension headache should also be rule out as it is the commonest cause of headache.
You need proper evaluation by a neurologist.Treatment depend upon findings.

Thank you for your response! I had uploaded a pic of my MRV. A vascular cardiologist said cerebral thrombosis and avm but the avm doesn't show up on the MRI so maybe a DAVF? Can you see that on the pic I sent? That is why I was asking you if there would be a better test to have?

Sorry,i am not able to see any pictures. There is no attachments in your query.
Yes,headache may be due to venous thrombosis.

For suspected AVM,conventional brain angiography is the best investigation.
There are some limitations in both CT and MRI angiography.
Conventional angiography is considered as the investigation of choice.
