Posted on Mon, 22 Sep 2014
Question: Hi Sir,

From last 1 month, my sister used to feel little pricking feeling in right side breast. Then doctor advised her to get the following tests done.

1. MANTOUX Test

2. Serum Prolactin REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES PROFILE (FEMALE)

3. Thyroid Function Tests

4. Ultrasound

5. Digital Mammography

6. FNAC (U/S guided FNAC)

So, I need an opinion on the report.

Brief Answer:
Breast tenderness.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for your query.
I have to understand why you have been advised all these investigations unless some provisional diagnosis was in mind. Fine needle aspiration can be done if a lump or nodule in the breast was observed. since your mother had the history of breast cancer I will advise you to go for digital mammography. If any thing suspicious is found in mammography further investigation can be conducted. Breast nodules particularly cancers are painless unless there is a focus of infection in it. Other tests are also indicated only if there is relevant history or complaint pertaining to respective test.
Before going for any investigation I will advise you to have physical examination done by a surgeon specialist who will advise you what specific investigation you need to undergo.
I feel you do not have to worry and expect that your sisters problem will be solved by medication only.
Truly,
Dr. J. Ticku

Hello Sir,

Thanks a lot for your response.

Some of the tests were suggested by private medical practitioners (Some of my family doctors had the same feeling as that of you i.e. were not required).

I believe I had attached all the reports with my query i.e. digital mammography also.

I would appreciate if you could go through all the reports and provide further advise.

Brief Answer:
Breast Nodule

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
I am sorry in responding your query late.
I have gone through the details of your investigation.
Though there is a nodular growth with benign histology report with mild atypia you need to keep it under observation. In the mean time I advise you to use Tab. Chymoral forte 1 tab. thrice daily for 1 week and wait for another week.
If this nodule does not disappear I advise you to undergo excision of the nodule for full histopathological examination. If this prickly sensation is aggravated during period of menstruation, it is completely benign and you should leave the worry.
Your other investigations were meaning less but are within normal range.
I hope you got me.
Truly,
Dr. J. Ticku
