Question: Hi I am a 44 year old white female with Surg Hx of Cholecystectomy, Endometrial Oblation and DnC in 2010, Hx Endometriosis and occasional episodes of IBS. Ive had a normal mammo in 2011, normal colonoscopy in 2013. Over the past 2-3 months I've noticed several significant changes: Sudden increase in major hair loss, (approx. 100 per brushing) fatigue, weight gain, irritability, and mood changes. Recent labs show Sed Rate of 21, Vitamin D 24 low, insufficient but not deficiency, Iron, total 39 low and Iron binding capacity 237 low, with normal CBC, ferritin, prolactin, testosterone, Vit B12, ANA and progesterone. My main concern is he major hair loss im experiencing...Are there any other tests I should be asking for to find the source of hair loss?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
THanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Yes, I would think of the following additional tests -
1. TSH, T3, T4 - Hypothyroidism fits most of your symptoms.
2. FSH, LH, Serum estradiol - To rule out perimenopause.
3. Free testosterone, DHEAS - Excess of male hormones ( due to hormonal disturbance ) .
Am sure one of these would show up something.
IF not, it could be due to stress, anxiety, weight gain or loss, erratic eating, sleeping disorders.
All the best
