What Throat Pain And Multiple Cuts On Lips After Intubation?

Question: Hello doctor, my name is XXXXX , i'm 24 and i have no medical issues. Last thursday i underwent oral surgery to extract 3 impacted molars it was done under general ansthesia. I had throat pain for almost 4 days after now i only feel the pain when i cough. What worries me now is that i noticed my uvula deviated to the left side ?
I'm worried that something went wrong during my intubation as i wokeup with multible cuts on my lips and pain at my throat . Should I be worried ?

Brief Answer:
nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXX,
Surgery for molars does not cause any deviation of the uvula.
After intubation many patients will have soreness of throat and can also have injuries on lips, teeth and sometimes on the palate and tongue.
Intubation does not cause uvula deviation. Injury during intubation can cause swelling of uvula. Swelling of the soft palate can deviate the uvula to the opposite side. This will go away once the swelling subsides in 2 or 3 days.
Do not worry, it is very possible that you never noticed the uvular deviation before the surgery.
If it bothers you too much see your doctor and clarify the issue.

Hello,
Sorry for the delay but I was unable to download the complete photo.
I just saw the photo your uvula looks absolutely normal. There is nothing to worry about.
It is deviated but most uvulas are deviated.
I feel you may have not noticed this deviation earlier. It may have been present all along. Let me know if I was wrong. I do not think there is any need to see the doctor about it but if you still feel anxious then see your doctor to clarify the issue.

Dr Rajkishori Godhi.
