What Treatment Effectively Treats Asthma From A Sore Throat?
Question: My wife 29 years who has asthama is suffering from soar throat since 2 days. She is feeling feverish and from today little cough also has started. What treatment would suit her to relieve her from these symptoms. We have erythromycin at home so can she take it?

Hi,
Symptomatically, she has a cough, sore throat and fever which started 2 days ago.
Usually this type of upper respiratory infection is caused by virus which are self resolving condition. Antibiotics are not effective.
I will recommend the following measures:
1. Warm salt water gargles. Alternatively you can recommend her to add 5ml of chlorhexidine gargle solution to warm water and gargle. It should be done 3-5 times a day.
2. Steam inhalation three times a day.
3. Tab Dolo three times a day
4. An antihistamine like tab Levocetirizine once at night for 3 days.
If fever or cough worsens, she can start antibiotics after getting evaluated by a doctor nearby. The doctor may also add a cough syrup based on clinical examination.
