Detailed Answer:
Hello,
nausea may be the presenting symptom of many disorders including gastroenteritis and other infections, electrolyte disorders, various abdominal inflammatory disorders, various disorders that causes vertigo, etc. If you've taken a new medication, nausea can be a side-effect.
You should visit a doctor for assessment, clinical examination and lab tests. Since you haven't mentioned other symptoms I suppose you have none. In patients like you, I usually order a complete blood count, C-reactive protein levels, urea, creatinine, serum electrolytes, transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, a pregnancy test (in women who still have periods), a urinalysis and other tests depending on the clinical impression I get from history taking and clinical examination.
Checking the vital signs is the first very important thing to assess in a patient with dizziness and nausea. For example, a marginal or low blood pressure, arrhythmia, a very fast heart rate, etc may indicate serious disorders.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Kind Regards,
Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis,
Internal Medicine Specialist
