Whay Causes Heavy And Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: I am a 52 year old female who up until last month was having regular periods. this month however my periods have not yet stopped and have been going for 10 days . The first week there were some clots that were quite large also. Generally my health is very good .I am fairly fit as is I exercise everyday which I thoughly enjoy. Over the last 2 years I have lost 22 kgs in weight which has only improved my wellbeing. I realise that this all could be menopause symptons and I have no other symptons but I few night sweats, nothing too sever yet. I would appreciate you advise. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Uterine bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. It is quite common to have such episodes of heavy bleeding at this age.

2. The reason could be various which needs to be evaluated.

3. First of all you need to get transvaginal ultrasound scan done to check if there is fibroid or endometrial thickness is abnormally high which needs to be treated.

4. The above 2 are common reasons that cause bleeding.

5. Therefore I request you to get an ultrasound scan done and see a gynecologist who will give you medicines based on scan report.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
