Brief Answer:

It must be started within 72 hours after a recent exposure to HIV.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

PEP should be used only in emergency situations and must be started within 72 hours after a recent possible exposure to HIV.

Normally PEP regimen includes combination of two or three anti retroviral drugs(ART). Usually prescribed drugs includes Zidovudine, Tenifovir, and Stavudine.

You have to consult a physician before starting these drugs. These are not prescription drugs and you can not buy these drugs directly.

If you’re prescribed PEP, you’ll need to take it once or twice daily for 28 days. PEP is effective in preventing HIV when administered correctly, but not 100%.

Wishing you good health.

Hope I have answered your question.
