When Should A Pregnancy Test Be Done To Check The Status?

Question: Hi Dr. I am trying to conceive and I took LH surge test on 26th Nov. which came out to be positive and also I got Follicular scan done the same day and it was impending rupture. Dr. told me that it can rupture anytime. When should I expect my periods and when should I take pregnancy test? Should it be taken at home or I should consult a Dr. I have not yet got my periods, but from last 2 days I am getting a kind of white discharge. please suggest.

You can test for pregnancy via urine pregnancy test today itself as it takes 14-16 days after ovulation for pregnancy test to come positive.

Is'nt it too early to test? Also I am having some symptoms of periods like breast pain, lower back pain. And am quite worried for the white discharge. It has never happened before I think. Is it something to be worried for?

No dear, in my opinion you are going to be lucky this time and most likely this is pregnancy only.
All symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and pregnancy in early phase are very similar.
It is not at all an early time for testing so test it today itself.

Many many congratulations as I have seen the attached test card picture which is sure shot positive.
Im very happy for you.
But the journey has just started so be a little cautious from the very beginning and take a note of the following points -
- have a good rest with no exertion at all
- avoid intercourse
- take ample amount of water
- take good amount of milk and green leafy vegetables
- almonds and walnuts are very good and should be taken on daily basis
- avoid any kind of stress
- keep taking all the medicines as prescribed daily without a miss.
Get an ultrasound after two weeks from today so as to see for heart beat of the baby and the gestation.

You need to change this habit slowly and try to lie on one side and let it be left or right.
For the time being you can sleep as you want till a month or two but after that shift to sleeping by one side.

My dr. has not prescribed any tests as of now. She has just given medicines. And asked to get dating scan ultrasound done after 3 weeks. Is it fine? Should'nt some tests have been done like thyroid? Actually I am a hypothyroid patient and on 100 mcg Eltroxine, so was worried about this

I usually get hemoglobin, blood sugar and thyroid hormone levels as soon as pregnancy is positive but in case patient has had these tests only 3 months prior to conception then these tests can be delayed till first Ultrasound.
So you can wait till 3 weeks in case you have had these tests in past three months.
Keep taking thyroid as advised till then.

Yes...I had taken these tests 3 months back exactly and had shown my reports to dr. Thanks for clarifying.
Also she advised me not to travel during first 3 months. But is it possible to air travel ? The duration of flight will be around 1-2 hours. Please advise
