Question : I have been taking Prempro .45/1.5 for over 25 years. I am now 74 and have no health concerns; my recent physical exam and blood work showed no areas of concern and I take all recommended preventive immunizations . My only medications are Prempro and a 20 mg Citalopram tablet daily; I take only a Centrum and vitamin C over the counter . This week I heard a physician speak about seniors not needing the same levels of medication they have been taking. He suggested this website. Thank you.

I read your question and i understand your concern. Prempro is a combination of estrogen and progesterone. At the age of 74 i believe its not even needed any more. Doctors recommend it for menopausal symptoms and also for postmenopausal osteoporosis.

I would suggest a few calcium supplements and discontinuation of prempro as the use that excessive has its own sequelae. I recommend prempro for only 5 to 10 years.

Butshell not only reduce the dose but also discontinue it would be wise but let your doctors decide what is best for you. He might have something in mind to continue the dose that long.
