When Would There Be Itching In The Eyes And A Sense Of Swelling On The Outer Edges Of The Sclera?

Question: My eyes are itchy as if I have an allergy, but the whites of both eyes, towards the outer edges, are swollen or loose. When I blink my eyelids push up the white of the eye and pinch it between them. It's sort of like what you see when you push the white of an egg in a frying pan with the spatula. It's creepy to look at since I thought the white was always supposed to be smooth.

Brief Answer:
due to inflammation of the eye from the allergy and itching

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The swelling is as a result of the itching of the eye. Itching is a mild type of trauma to the eye and any trauma to any aspect of the body would cause swelling.

As you stated, an allergy would be the most likely reason for the itching and this itself would also contribute to the swelling that you are seeing in your eyes.

Treatment would involve the use of a topical antihistamine eye drop if you have any such as claritine eye or pataday etc.

the topical drops would work faster then oral antihistamine to relieve the symptoms in the eye but if you do not have the drops then you can use an oral antihistamine eg benadryl or claritine or allegra or zyrtec

the swelling would go down as the allergy resolves
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
