Question : Hi Dr. my name is XXXX and I have gout in my toe really bad. I normally take allopurinol every day but once a year I get gout anyway. I have been on Indomethacin, which normally knocks it out but didn't even phase it this time so he put me on colcrys and I took it for a few days and it seemed to clear up for a couple if days but then came right. So now I am trying cherry juice and a couple other things like that. This has been going on for a month now. Dr XXXXXXX took an X-ray of my foot and said the joint was fine. Any ideas? Is there a Gout specialist you could recommend?

Brief Answer:
Management of gout.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You can continue taking allopurinol to prevent gout attacks. Along with that, avoid a diet that increases uric acid.
Diet to be avoided included include alcohol, seafood and shellfish, meats, such as bacon, turkey, beef, chicken, duck, pork and ham and liver.

If you are getting recurrent attacks while on allopurinol, low dose colchicine can be tried for preventive treatment also.
The specialist that treats gout is Rheumatologist. You can follow up with a rheumatologist for management of gout.

Hope this answers your question.
