Question : Hi, something very heavy fell on the top of my foot. About an inch up from where your toes join the foot. It hurt and throbbed quite a bit for the first day and after that sore to touch or where a shoe. It was quite bruised and swollen. Now, a week later. It is swollen on the top and a fairly clear blue line is showing up where it hurts to touch. It also hurts to bend my toes down or up. Any advice is appreciated.

The pain and blue line with tenderness and swelling is suggestive of hematoma - an internal soft tissue injury . This can be associated with a bone injury like fracture . You need to get it X-rayed to find if there is any bone injury .Keep the foot elevated on two pillows and let the swelling subside . Avoid all painful movement .
