Question : I am having trouble urinating in the morning. I take saw palmetto w/zinc and have for a number of years. Is there an over the counter medication that I can take? My family doctor is on vacation and no urologists here are not taking new patients.

Hello,

Based on the facts that you have posted, difficulty in passing urine in the morning could be due to UTI secondary to Enlarged prostate

Take antibiotics like Nitrofurantoin 100mg twice daily for 7 days which should be available over the counter.

Please consult the Urologist for assessment and get relevant tests done to rule out enlarged Prostate as soon as s/he is available.

You may apply hot fomentation over lower abdomen so as to reduce congestion of the bladder to ease out to urinate.
