Why Are Both My Eyes Watery, Red And Itchy?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2022
Question: Both eyes are watering, red, and itchy. They have been this way for a week or more. I have allergies but have not had issues with my eyes, to this extent, before. It’s similar to my reaction to cats or dogs but I’ve been around neither. My eye glasses are bothering my eyes as well. The nose pieces seem to irritate both eyes.

Brief Answer:
Topical antihistamines would work best

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The symptoms are typical of allergic conjunctivitis though you stated it has not been this severe before and you have not been in contact with your normal allergens.
Though there are other causes of redness and watering of the eyes, the presence of itching, implies allergy.

You may want to consider topical antihistamine drops to the eye eg pataday, visine all day itch relief, claritine eye etc.

Since this would be applied directly to the eye, would have a greater effect than the oral medication.

Allergy testing would determine what else you may trigger an allergic reaction

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions.
