Question : I have blood in the mucous I cough up, sometimes blood clots about 1/2 a dime in size, sometimes just a trace
Brief Answer:
Infection in IPF can also cause hemoptysis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You are having IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis).
So you have damaged lungs.
Now infection in damaged lungs can cause hemoptysis (blood in sputum).
So in my opinion, you should start empirical broad spectrum antibiotic (azithromycin or levofloxacin) along with hemostatic drugs like tranexamic acid to see improvement.
If you still have hemoptysis then bronchoscopy is needed to find out cause for hemoptysis.
Quit smoking if you are active smoker.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
