Brief Answer:
need testing

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question,
It is true that anxiety may cause a sense of a need to urinate urgently. The things you need tested to make sure there is not another cause include; prostate exam, urinalysis and glucose test. While all of these problems, prostate, urinary tract infection and diabetes are unlikely if you are not needing to urinate at night and not having any pain, I still think you need those tested before you say it is because of anxiety.
If your doctor has already determined that you do not have a prostate problem, an infection or diabetes then it may be anxiety.
The ways to treat anxiety include medications, counseling and exercise. The more of these you do the better will be your chances of getting rid of the anxiety.

I had general blood tests 3 months ago and they came back clear, the gp dipsticked my urine and sent it away for analysis and it came back fine.. He said it is highly unlikely to be prostate cancer due to my age... He does not think its prostatitas as pain is normaly associated with this condition....diabities is not showing in any tests.. I do suffer from ibs and anxiety.. Is this the problem? I also used to drink 2-3 litres off coke/pepsi a day which i have stopped drinking for the last 2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
probably the anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Yes, then it sounds like your doctor has ruled out all the common causes for urinary urgency leaving anxiety as a likely cause. Try to find a therapist that can help you relieve the anxiety symptoms. There are also physical therapists that do some bladder training that may help you with these symptoms as well. If you are getting no relief you may want to see a urologist for some testing to make sure you do not have something like overactive bladder, a condition where the bladder just contracts periodically causing the sense of urgency.
In any case, cutting out the caffeine and other foods that may irritate the bladder is a good idea. Some of those foods include tomatoes, citrus, chocolate, alcohol, carbonated drinks and spicy foods.
Good wishes to you,
Dr. Robinson

Brief Answer:
hard not to think about

Detailed Answer:
It is hard not to think about it when it is something like needing to urinate. You could try some relaxation tapes or something else if you do not want to see a counselor at this time. Also be reassured that your doctor has ruled out all the things that may harm your body and just getting your bladder to relax may be all that is needed. Also know that this is a common response to stress, the feeling of needing to urinate even when your bladder is not full
Hoping you get relief soon,
Dr. Robinson
