Why Does Egg Protein Consumption Cause Tightness In Chest And Stomach Discomfort?

default

Question: Hi

I have been suffering for 8 months from chest tightness and recently had stomach pain and been diagnosed with having gastritus. 8 months ago my ilness first started by taking a high caffeine gym product which i beleive triggered my health to deteriorate making my stomach lining sensitive along with other factors such as taking too much anti inflammatory . Since then i have noticed whenevrr i eat eggs or have protein powder my face heats up, i feel dizzy and get tightness in chest. I have stoped egs and protein powder and i have been instructed to take 40mg omeprazole for the gastritus that was discovered recently through an endoscopy.

Q1) I have not yet been given an explanation as to why protein powder and eggs are causing the symptoms mentioned. Once my stomach lining heals with omeprazole in a few months will my body be able to tolerate it like it used to so I can start consuming it again?

Q2) I noticed recently when I workout my chest in the gym performing exercises such as bench press i get inner centre chest pain. If i continue to do heavy weights on the chest can i end up geting a hiatal hernia especially doing lower chest bench press where high pressure is placed on the upper abdomen?

Q3) is there any possibility that protein powder and/or eggs is causing inflamation?

Q4) In the future when im better isit ok to take omeprazole once a week to prevent it happening again

Would be greatful for feedback. Thank you.

Hi
I am Dr Mittal
I will be responding to your specific questions

1. The damage to the wall of the stomach opens the body to many antigens that are not open to it usually. When this happens, the body protects itself from these antigens by producing antibodies. These antibodies take time to settle down, and sometimes they never settle down completely.

Besides egg protein- albumin- is a very common allergen.

I feel that once your gastritis settles, you may retry the food, but not the supplements after about a year. At that time, if the antibodies have settled, you should be able to tolerate food again.

3. Yes, this antigen antibody affect is inflammation.

4. The affects of omeprazole last 24 hours. So once a week dose is not useful.

2. Any exercise should be built up gradually. The deep seated pain may be due to muscle damage and tear by overstraining. So yes chances of hiatus hernia are possible. It is best to use a trainer and build up the exercise levels gradually. As you get used to it, the muscles are strengthen and thereby complications are avoided.

I hope that answers you

Hi doctor thank you for your answers have few more questions

1) after a year when I take the protein powder again is it likely to build up inflammation again in my chest/stomach ? And how can I prevent it ?

2) do you think it could be an egg allergy?

3) since last week I have been feeling slight dizziness but I think it's improving since. Started to take omeprazole. So my question is can gastritis cause dizziness ?

Hi
I am going to respond to your questions

1. if the gastric wall is built again. it will protect you from developing inflammation and allergy again

2. possibility of food allergy is possible, component can be any. We will need tests for that source confirmation

3. gastritis would cause dizziness only if you were bleeding, which is unlikely considering the reports. So no, I wont say in your case dizziness was due to gastritis

Best of luck

Hi doctor thanks I would also like to ask you the following:

1) I feel like my stomach is recovering with omeprazole and my dizziness has reduced but I still can't drive my car. When I start driving I feel very nervous like I am having a breakdown, short breath and heart beat increases every time I drive my car. Do you know what the problem is because I am very calm when I drive Im not trying to be nervous but it is happening itself. Is there problem in my nervous system? I am thinking of seeing a neurologist regarding this matter what do you suggest.

2) I will ask my gastric doctor this question also but how long generally should I be taking 40mg omeprazole daily until my stomach inflammation clears up?

Detailed Answer:
1. its probably a weakness related issue. you can give it some time and see. Anxiety should ideally be treated by a psychiatrist, but a neurologist may be able to help you as well. besides, till you have vertigo, I would suggest refrain from driving

2. omeprazole is a safe drug. side effect profile is usually low. You can take it long term. Ideally at least 1 month followed by a repeat endoscopy decides the further course of the medicine

Best of luck
