Why Has The Anterior Rim Of My Vagina Become Very Hard Along With Itchiness?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2021
Question: I noticed that the anterior rim of my vagina had become quite hard approximately nine months ago. There was also a slight sensation of itchiness to the affected area. Since then the hardness has not changed in any way but the itchiness has increased to the point of being problematic. What could cause this condition and what treatments are available?

Brief Answer:
Need to rule out Atrophic vaginitis and lichen planus

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for trusting us with us with your query.

Vaginal itching along with hardening is concerning for Atrophic vaginitis (due to postmenopausal decreased estrogen levels) and Lichen planus (which is an inflammatory condition).

Vaginal examination and biopsy (if needed) can confirm the diagnosis. Management of atrophic vaginitis in mainly using estrogen creams and lichen planus using steroid creams. Please be advised to follow up with your Ob-Gyn for confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate management.

Hope this helps
