Question : I have had pain in the right mid-abdomen up to under the right rib. It extends down toward the right hip. I had severe bloating with pain extending thru to my back. Thought it was indigestion or bowel issue due to having had greasy French fries for lunch yesterday. They often cause a distress in my system, so I do not eat them very often,.... I have managed to eat a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a slice of whole grain bread in the last hour. That allowed me to burp which helped somewhat. I finally took one Advil, 45 mins ago and that is providing some pain relief but pain still persists in the center of abdomen, just above and around naval area.
If this is just a bad case of wrong food choices in the last couple of days with gastric reactions and distress-I have never experienced gastrointestinal pain quite like this. Should I be concerned enough to go and get looked at ?

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound Abdomen

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I highly recommend an abdominal examination and if needed an ultrasound scan for such symptoms in a 65 yr old male.
As per the symptoms so well described I suspect liver and gall bladder issues initially. Then if they are ruled out with ultrasound scan then I would go with gut issues in the ascending colon so a colonoscopy may be needed. If you had not undergone the routine colonoscopic screening it would be advised as well.

Advil is not the right choice but shall surely provide some relief. it sounds a spasmodic pain so antispasmodics or anticholinergic drugs are given for good relief like Mefenamic acid or Hyoscine / scopolamine kind of drugs are better. They are prescription only medicines and needs an examination first.

Hope my stand is clear and let me know if any clarification.

Regards
