Why Is Febrex Plus Advised When Diagnosed With Herpes Labialis?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Aug 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,

I was diagnosed this morning with herpes labialis. I have been prescribed Febrex plus along with acyclovir cream. I was reading some online (yes, not a good thing to do, but couldn't help it) and this medicine is being used for cold and cough. Any particular reason I have been prescribed this medicine?

Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
The Febrex plus is to make you comfortable from pain, itching and any fever

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXx,
Thanks for writing in.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Herpes labialis is a condition which might have symptoms like moderate pain and fever with itching.

2. The medicine FEBREX PLUS contains paracetamol 500 mg, chlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg, phenylephrine hydrochloride 10 mg and is given to treat pain, itching, allergy, cold and fever. It is to be taken in recommended dose and after food. It might cause mild drowsiness.

3. Your doctor has given febrex plus to reduce your pain and symptoms of itching if you have it and make you comfortable. Acyclovir cream is to treat herpes labialis rashes.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Brief Answer:
It is difficult to get rid of it in two days

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. This is caused by a virus and applying medicine might control the rashes but will not heal it in two days.

2. In most patients the crust forms after one week from appearance of rash.

3. Therefore there is nothing to be done to make it heal by day after tomorrow.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
