Why Is Sensival Prescribed After Successful Treatment Of Herepes Zoster?

Question: I has an attack of herepes zoster.The viral treatment is over and the doctor has prescribed sensival 25 mg to deal with PHN.

Is it necessary to take this medicine?If not taken would the PHN subside by itself over a period of time.I donot wish to take medication just for pain relif.

PHN is common in old age. So the drug is given to prevent or control it as much as possible. There is no hard and fast rule to take it. It is not going to cure it totally or prevent totally. The effectiveness of the drug depends on type and severity of pain.

If you can manage or do not have pain you can wait.
