different possible causes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Swelling of one eyelid can be due to different possible causes such as:
(1) Insect bite
(2) Trauma to the eyelid
(3) Infection of the eye lid- called blepharitis, may seen a small amount of pus by the eyelid
A stye can also form on the eyelid and cause swelling as well, a localized lump would be seen.
(4) Allergies though this would usually affect both eyes unless that eye in particular came into contact with an agent and itching would usually be present. An oral antihistamine would help with this.
If there is any history of trauma to the eye or there is any disturbance of your vision, you should be seen.
If there is no evidence of infection or no history of trauma or disturbance of vision then you can consider adding an anti histamine to the medication (ibuprofen) that you are taking. This would be done even if there is no itching.
If it appears to be localized like a stye then warm compress approximately 4 times a day would be helpful, this would be done for 15 to 20 mins.
You may need to be seen to find the exact cause of your symptoms.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions.
