Question: In July 19th thru July 22nd, 2016 I underwent implants of a defibrillator & pacemaker ordered by my Cardiologist. The implants wer completed on july 21st and I was released the next day, July 22,2016; however on the next day (July 23rd, I past out at home and was taken to the emergency room. After waiting several hours, I was diagnosed as being "totally ANEMIC" and I required four blood transfusions. Question: Why was my "ANEMIC" diagnosis not known during the previous few days before ????

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

These extreme changes in the blood lab tests could be related to an acute loss of blood, probably with gastro-intestinal bleeding or to an internal hemorrhage.

The fainting is related to low blood perfusion to the brain, due to the acute loss of blood.

Blood thinners used during the procedure could lead to acute and abundant loss of blood from the stomach, which can be noticed in the stool.

- Have you noticed any changes in the stool during those days: red / black color or diarrhea?

- Was a stool analysis for the presence of blood performed?

- What other tests were performed to investigate for the possible causes of bleeding?

I shall await your response.

Thank you.

According to other medical firms, I should not have been released with the various signs of ANEMIA" being known, especially after the "IMPLANTS" were just done the day before I was released. I do appreciate your reply but XXXX tell me I should not have been released with my condition without checking before my release.

Brief Answer:
My opinion is as follows

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I agree with you on the fact that if anemia is suspected, the patient should not be discharged home.

Did they perform any tests during the hospitalization?

I would like to review those tests for a more professional opinion and compare them with those in the next hospitalization for anemia.

Hope I have been helpful. Wishing you good health.

Thank you.
