Hello and thanks for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query,
I am sorry to hear about the problem your wife is suffering from.
As per your query somatostatin is a vasoconstrictor. It constricts the blood vessels running in intestines. As the size of the lumen of tube of blood vessels decreases the amount of blood lost is decreased that's why she has been prescribed octerotide.
It has no direct effect on levels of hemoglobin neither does it heals any bleeding point.
Hope I was clear and easy to understand.
follow ups are welcome.
Would pray for her.
Thank you and may God bless her.
Regards!
