Question : Hi there my name is XXXXXXX I got a concussion three months ago. I was stammering over my words and the doctor diagnosed me with frontal lobe disorder. My balance was off as well. How long can this last I'm noticing that's it's getting a lot better, only stammering about every twenty or so words. I was under a lot of stress afterwards and not sleeping. Will I make a full recovery? I'm very concerned

Brief Answer:
Usually good recovery, brain imaging results might be useful.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

To answer more confidently to your question it might be useful to know whether any brain imaging was done to search for lesions of the brain matter, the term frontal lobe disorder indicates only a group of symptoms but not the responsible cause. Generally the term concussion is used for temporary impairment, without brain lesions. As the term temporary suggests patients generally make a full recovery although it may take several months in some cases, up to a year. So if it is a concussion without any permanent brain lesion you should recover, symptoms such as yours are very common, but gradually improve.

If on brain imaging on the other hand there have been identified brain lesions then it is possible for some symptoms to remain. Recovery continues for many months in this case as well, many patients become symptom free and the fact you're improving is a very good indicator, but there is a chance that some mild symptoms may persist.

If you do have the results of brain imaging studies please share them and I'd be happy to discuss them.
