Question : Hi. I contacted HA-MRSA in 2007 after being in surgery for 22 hours. Since then , I take 3200 mgs of bactrim daily (although the doctor has said that I can cut back to 1200 now) and I've been told that it may be for life. Initially, I was told that because it was in the bones, I was not contagious and my family and child would not at risk. Then, last evening, I was humiliated in a crowd when a former friend announced that I was contagious and there was no sure thing as internal MRSA. The gentleman that accompanied me has since emailed me to say that I lied and would never see me again.
I need the truth.....do I need to tell people when I come in contact with them? Also, do I need to disclose this to men, the same as a STD. This may affect my professional and social life, but I need to know.

                                    Brief Answer:
It sounds like you are a carrier
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
People that are MRSA carriers are infectious. You do need to let people know this and take precautions not to spread the infection. Two percent of the population in the US are MRSA carriers, so this is a common condition. This brochure will show you some of the precautions you need to take. The page numbers are strange, it is meant to be printed out and stapled together but the information is good.

If I have been taking meds since 2004 and have my blood work done regularly, which shows my esr sediment levels as normal, as well as my Westrgren, is it possible that I've been cured?
I've not had any problems since all metal was removed from my leg since 2007.

Hello,
It is possible that you are cured. You will need to have your doctor or an infectious disease specialist to confirm this with testing. I wish you the best.
