Question : Hello,

I had genital warts due to low-risk HPV in early 2014. My body could not get rid of it after several months so I had to get help by a doctor to cut it off and he gave me Aldara cream as well. Since then, no reccurence until today after 3 full years. My questions are as follow:

1. Will the infection EVER reccur in my case provided I am not reinfected by another strain? Because my body needed help to get rid of it, it could not get rid of it alone at first, does this make a difference? Please explain why it cannot reccur? Because some doctors said it can reccur some said not (because eradicated) and I am mentally sick now to know who's right.

2. Do I have to tell future sexual partners or relationship partner about this historical infection, as it might reccur in future ?

Thank you, your help will be much appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Regarding HPV

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Most of the patients who are infected with low risk HPV are able to eradicate infection in about 2 years, but in some, infection may linger on longer, leading to recurrences. This is due to low innate immunity. Aldara enhances local innate immunity and thus helps resolve infection. So don't worry, you may use Aldara again and you would ultimately be able to eradicate infection and recurrences.

Ideally, you should inform your sexual partners about your history of HPV infection and how you plan to eradicate it. You should also use a condom regularly to prevent transmission.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.

My HPV infection has been gone since 3 full years thanks to my doctor and Aldara cream he gave me. No reccurence ever since the treatments, does this mean it has been eradicated?

Why do you suggest I should use Aldara again and necessarily tell my partners if it has been eradicated? Are you supposing it might come back?

Brief Answer:
Regarding HPV

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

If you haven't have had any recurrences for 3 long years then your HPV infections might well have been already eradicated and there is no need to use Aldara now.

No, I am not supposing it might come back. I thought you meant that it has recurred after 3 years, therefore I suggested you to use Aldara again! Since you have clarified that the infection has not recurred even after 3 years then there is absolutely no need to Aldara again.

You may tell your partners (not necessarily though) that you once had HPV but that it was treated and has been eradicated and that you are free from it.

Hope I have answered your query.
