Posted on Fri, 10 Jul 2015
Question: I'm 49 years old, and wondering what is the likely hood that I will become pregnant if my husband and I had relations the morning before the ovulation kit indicated peak fertility? (The morning before there was not and indication of fertility at all). This is the 14th day of my cycle. My cycle is usually 25 days.

Brief Answer:
you are in your fertile period and can get pregnant...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM.
If you are still ovulating at 49 years of age, then its great. The fact that ovulation occurs after 36 hrs of the day the ovulation kit test turns positive, due to the LH surge. You are anyways in your fertile period as of now and considering the fact that sperms can stay alive in vagina for atleast 72 hrs , it is likely that you may get pregnant.
So it is suggested that you should opt for an emergency contraceptive pill like PLAN-B within 72 hrs of the unprotected intercourse to decrease any chances of accidental pregnancy if it is not desired.
I hope i have answered your query,
Regards
