Would A Total Hip Replacement Procedure Help Cure Hip Subluxation?

Question: Hi, can I answer your health question? Please type your question here... hello, my name is XXXXXXX My question is this. I am having A total right hip replaced May 18, 2018. They tell me my hip is subluxed. I can barely sit down, it takes about two minutes and then something slips totally out of place. When I stand up again it usually cracks twice and is extremely painful, and if I didn’t have a cane I would collapse . I am worried that 3 1/2 weeks of this will be too hard on my hip. Will the total hip replacement stop this hip from popping in and out? Because I’ve read that ligaments hold everything together and I’m worried maybe a ligament has stretched or torn or something? I have called my doctors office for five times just for some kind of reassurance or answers. And no one called Back. Would appreciate a little bit of advice. Thank you

Brief Answer:
The ligaments are also repaired as per need.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
After a total hip replacement you will stop having a subluxation. The ligaments are also repaired along with the hip replacement so that you can function properly. The artificial hip also has a deeper cup- acetabulum that keeps the ball of the hip in its proper place. You need not worry. After the surgery your disability and will decrease and you will have a better quality of life.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Thank you so much for the information as I have been so worried. I am having an anterior approach and I was wondering if the ligaments have to be repaired if it will take longer than simply the total hip replacement or will it be about the same recovery time. I am being done with the head of the orthopaedic department in the Ottawa General Hospital. And I’m sure he is excellent . I am being discharged the same day and was wondering if ligament repair will make that difficult?. I guess that’s my two other questions so I’ll be done but I really really really appreciate your service thank you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
No extra recovery time needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Any ligament repair will not need an extra time for recovery. You will be able to walk with support within 2 days of surgery. No need to worry. Good physiotherapy regimen will help in getting back to your normal routine within 6-8 weeks.
