Question : I've been having ongoing ankle pain for the last two weeks, originally I just suspected that it was due to starting my new job (I work for FedEx and it requires alot of walking/lifting throughout the day). Now my left ankle is almost unbearable to walk on, swollen, and has dark brown spots on it. i'm worried this could possible be a circulation issue, being as i haven't had any recent trauma happen to my ankle and/or foot. I thought it was drug induced hyperpigmentation originally, since starting the new job i've been taken more ibuprofen then what i'm use too. I also experience something that feels like restless leg syndrome quite often. I won't have insurance for another three weeks at work, I can't afford another doctor XXXXXXX especially if this ends up being something super simple. I've been elevating, applying ice, and working in compression stockings, as well as wrapping it with an ace bandage when i'm resting it. Would aspirin be beneficial? Is there anything else that i can do or is the best suggestion to seek medical advice immediately.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain and swelling in the ankle that you are having without any history of injury can be due to arthritis- inflammation of the ankle joint. Rest, ace bandage, hot compress, keeping the foot elevated while resting and a mild pain killer will help. You can start taking aspirin and see if it helps in reducing the pain. Any vascular issue is less likely. In case the pin and swelling aggravates then do consult your orthopedician for a few investigations.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Mild swelling is present.

Detailed Answer:
I have seen the attached images. The swelling is mild and can be due to mild inflammation. This should reduce after keeping the leg elevated on two pillows while resting. Standing for long hours can cause such swelling. Aspirin and mild pain killers will also help.
Regards.
