Would There Be Withdrawal Problems With Tricor?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Oct 2014
Question: My Dr. did a blood test and I got the results today and they told me to stop taking Fenobrate (Tricor) because it was not helping me. He said there would be no Withdrawal symptoms - is that true? I have been taking it for about 8 years. I have a lot of anxiety and right now I am afraid to change my meds. Please give me your opinion. I am afraid of a bad reaction if I go off of it cold turkey.

Brief Answer:
No withdrawal problems with tricor.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM

Your doctor has advised you to stop taking tricor as it is not helping to reduce your triglyceride levels. Tricor works in your blood stream and liver to reduce conversion of fatty particles that are high in triglycerides. The medication does not have long acting effects and no withdrawal symptoms. I can reassure you that stopping tricor will be harmless.

To help reduce your triglyceride levels in addition to reducing fat in your diet and exercising you can also try red rice yeast. There are some other prescription medication that may reduce triglycerides like questran which is a binding agent.

Please be assured that you can stop without problems. I do recommend you discuss alternative treatments to help with your cholesterol and triglycerides
