Would You Recommend Lyrica Or Neurontin And At What Dose Per Day For Odontalgia?

Question: Hi, doctor and first, want to wish u and your family a very happy and blessed New Year. Doctor, recently had some gum work done on that atypical odontalgia right side and it sent the pain over the moon which as u know, is horrible - the pulling, gnawing, aching pain that nothing seems to help. I just want to get a refresher on what meds u think are most effective to help me. For the odontalgia, would u recommend Lyrica or Neurontin and at what dose per day (I have both in the house) Tried pure lidocaine and it does nothing. My neurologist also gave me Trileptal as an adjunct but not sure if Trileptal helps the AO. Thanks so much for your feedback.
Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again and happy new year to you and your family too.
I have read your new question.
In my opinion. Lyrica should be better than Neurontin in your case.
You can start with 75 mg/ evening for a week and after that, the dose may be increased to 2x75 mg/daily or 3 x 75 mg/daily.
Discuss with your Neurologist these issues.
I hope this helps.
Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
I have read your follow-up question.
Trileptal is used for nerve pain and is shown to be more effective than carbamazepine.
It is not well studied for the atypical TN but is used in classic trigeminal neuralgia.
In my opinion, in your case, it is worth a try.
I hope this helps.
Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
In good health.
