Question : Yesterday I slept with a women who was on her period. I wore protection. But I am now very worried of any stds. Am I at risk?
Brief Answer:
Regarding STDs
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have reviewed your query and noted your concern.
Protected sex is safe as far as risk of HIV, gonorrhea and chlamydia is concerned but it is not entirely safe and STDs like genital herpes and HPV (genital warts) can still be passed. This is because a condom covers only part of penis and skin to skin contact is still possible between the base of penis/ scrotum and pubic region of female.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Thank you. There was a little blood at the base of my penis, because of her period. Which I cleaned. I just worried, because after we had sex. She had told me that her other partners had never used a condom. Is there anyway I could be at risk through French kissing? I did double check the condom. It did have period blood outside, but there was no tear, or signs of slippage. Is period blood the same as vaginal fluid? Just very concerned. I am considering getting back with my girlfriend, and I don’t wanna put her at risk.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
You should get a full STD at 4 weeks and at 12 weeks. However, as I said, Genital Herpes can get transmitted through skin to skin contact whereas HIV is not a risk. I would advice you to not have sex with your girlfriend for the time being.
take care.
