Question : You must first know the history of my current problem. #1. On May 2018’ was the first of 4 ER visits, with a hospital stay of 3 days then kicked me out. Telling my sister, they couldn’t find anything to cause my pain. I had a severe (1 month- undiagnosed with 4 er visits. Yes I am not exaggerating the time period. Till the First of JULY. Over 10 doctors and nurses having never actually did a physical. (If they did, they would have immediately been able to diagnose me!!!!!! Shingles. I suffered every minute of every hour of every day, which caused me to experience stress blisters all over my scalp. diagnosed.Post hospital follow up visit to my PPO. screaming in unbearable pain. With my 4th ER visit, again no diagnosis. Over again, and again, same ——-Discharging me without a diagnosis and still in EXTREME ELECTRIC, HOT POKER PAIN. Left flank and lower anterior abdomen. I had never thought “to look” in the mirror at my back side. The pain came on quickly and felt like, perhaps, a kidney stone. Why I have to explain my reason for not doing a complete “physical”. Why none of the 10 doctors thought to do a physical, is so classic #1 class 101. Is so shameful, to let a pt. Go on, day after day in several pain is obsurd. They did do all the possible X-rays. Ct scans, mri. Blood work (drug panel which obviously came out NEG)every time I was admitted to the ER. NOW GET THIS ! As I was getting ready to put on my clothes. MY BROTHER, WHO HAS ABSOLUTELY NO MEDICAL EXPERIENCE, NOTICED THAT I HAD A RASH ON MY BACK. as I immediately looked in the mirror. I diagnosed my self. The discharge MD came into my room. I said flabbergastedly “ doctor I have shingles”. He replied “oh yeah, you do. He gave me IV acyclovir. I then went home with a RX. #2. I was on a research JACK) Med. For chronic psyoriatic arthitic, which is another story, for another time. Caused my immune system to plummet. With time the pain finally lessened and I was able to function again. The pain never went away completely. The last few weeks I believe that the pain is showing it’s ugly head again. MY QUESTION (finally). Along with this flank pain. I am now suffering a high-moderate left occipital pain with all the above mentioned remedies. And a left lower leg pain which feels like a XXXXXXX horse, especially at night.i also “think” I am experiencing slight dizziness. However this just be a hypochondriac result from the horrendously undiagnosed shingle dilemma. Finally my question to you. Are my new symptoms; left occipital pain, muscular chest pain upon choughing, increasingly left flank pain and finally right calf pain a result of shingles or could this be more credible. As you can appreciate my skepticism and loathing of our local hospital ERs. I am very interested in your opinion. Sincerely, Marianne

Brief Answer:
Probably symptoms are related to shingles, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I read very carefully your medical history.

I am really sorry that you have experienced pain due to misdiagnosis.

In my opinion the pain that you are experiencing right now is also related to shingles.

Shingles is caused by a virus which can enter into your nervous system and lay inactivated for years.

It may reactivate especially when you have immune deficiencies.

The first symptom is mostly related to the intense pain which can be spread in different part of the body.

So, in my opinion you should continue the treatment for shingles and take painkillers for the pain.

I would recommend taking Acyclovir tablet daily .I also recommend using anti inflammatory medications for the pain such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day.

In case that you develop rash you should also use the Acyclovir cream for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
