Diagnosed With Oral Thrush: I Needed Two Different Types Of

Question: diagnosed with oral thrush: I needed two different types of anti-fungal meds. Nystatin Oral suspension and Fluconazole. In that order. My question is this: What is the maximum time (how long) should I take one anti-fungal med. Before starting a second anti-fungal med? How many weeks should I have taken the Nystatin to eradicate this fungus? Before starting a second?
Brief Answer:
Use one antifungal to eradicate the fungal infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think there is no need to take two antifungal medications.
You can use one successfully.
You can take fluconazole 200 mg orally the first day and then 100 mg daily for two weeks and it will eradicate the fungal infection.
Also you can use nystatin suspension four times daily for two weeks.
You can use one and it can be enough to stop fungal infection and will not be need for two. Don't use a second one if you don't see reoccurrence.
Hope I have answered the question.

Dr. Xhufka: Thank you for the reply back. Here is my situation. I have an underactive thyroid gland, and take 150 mcg. of levothyroxine for this.
I commonly get oral thrush infections. This is a very bad case, that I have now. Fungus down my throat, past the point of swallowing. I started taking Nystatin Oral Suspension. I've been advised that this will eradicate certain types of fungus. I kept taking it for a long time. Like two months. Then I felt like I was not getting any better. So I stopped taking it.
I waited 5 days, and then started on fluconazole. This new anti-fungal med works, and is effective against the fungus. I've been on it for a week. I don't believe I'm going to need to take it, that much longer.
My original question. Should I have stopped taking the Nystatin Oral Suspension earlier, than I did? Even though I felt during this time, it was working? XXXXXXX Secombe

Brief Answer:
5 days are enough before starting fluconazole.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear XXXXXXX and thank you for asking again.
I don't think you should have stopped it earlier before starting fluconazole.
5 days of stopping it are enough to be cleared from body even though nystatin and fluconazole don't interact with each other.
I believe you may need to take fluconazole for two weeks to eradicate I even though it may seem better.
