Ketoconazole shampoo is commonly used for treatment of dandruff and consequent increased hair shedding due to dandruff. In addition it also forms part of treatment of androgenetic alopecia in males along with topical minoxidil solution and oral finasteride where it is supposed to have a local antiandrogenic effect nhibiting the action of DHT in hair follicles which is responsible for miniaturization or thinning of hair. It is available in 2% strength.
