Hello - I Had A Urinary Tract Catheter After A

I could only pass a small amout of urine and by the nighttime it became very painful. fortunately I had an early appt the next day with the urologist to have it removed. as we were getting out of the car outside the dr's office there was another very sharp paint and it must have forced a fair amount of urine around the catheter and the one side of my left legs was entirely wet with urine. (I had bermada shorts - but it was still seemed like a lot of urine had gotten out)
there was no way could have lasted any longer with the catheter still in.
what do you think happened?
it possible, in case of partial blockade of the catheter...

Hello there, welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...
I can understand your concern...
Well, all your symptoms actually pointing towards a condition where there is a partial blockade of the catheter inlet inside the bladder. It's seen very frequently after such biopsy procedures, as the residual tissues, small clots, urinary sediments get stuck to the catheter inset causing such partial blockade.
Which was the probable reason why you could only pass a small amount of urine causing increased pressure inside the bladder and such pain at night...Now, coincidentally due to the external force the blockade was somehow got released causing such gush of urine all of a sudden (I suppose you must've felt better immediately after that incident due to the release of pressure)...
It may seem surprising to you, how could you lasted for that long with the catheter in-situ, but it's possible (due to the residual anaesthetic effects, and painkiller medications)...
Next time, before going for such procedures, please request your Urologist to run some bladder irrigation during and after the procedures so that such blockades doesn't get to happen...Since it was a partial blockade, there's always some amount of urine coming not, so the pressure didn't get to build up to the maximum point...
Hope this answers your query...
Let me know if I can assist you further...
Take Care
Kind Regards
