Question : hello doctor, my two year old daughter is suffering from severe cold, cough, running nose, mild fever since yesterday. Now she is getting irritated and crying often due to blocked nose. Form similar symtopms, she was previously prescribed below medicines. please let me know if the same can be given her this time as well. Syrup: - meftagesic p - zedoced 100 - tixylix Thanks, XXXXXXX please advise. Thanks

Hi,

The important criteria is how the child's activeness is. If the child is active in between fever spells and feeding well, then she should be fine. At this point, I would start on plain paracetamol syrup - Syp Fepanil instead of meftagesic P. Syp Ascoril cold and flu may be used to treat cold and cough. You may also try steam inhalation under your supervision.

The dose of these medications are based on her body weight. May I know her current weight?

6ml of fepanil 125...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I would start her on 6ml of Syp Fepanil 125. If the dose (ml) is high, alternatively 3ml of Syp fepanil 250 can be used. Medication should be repeated every 6 - 8 hours to keep fever under control for next 2-3 days.

Syp Ascoril cold and flu in doses of 2.5ml twice daily may be used.

The progress needs to be monitored to rule out secondary bacterial infection.
