Question : hi, My mother is suffering from bp and diabetes ( age 59), she is using olmat 20 AMH and amaryl mv 1 mg since 1 year ( tablets are changed one year back). Now she is complaining about getting small shocks like feeling in the nerves of the hands. 2 days back it was only for left hand but today it is for both the hands. Please suggest what could be the cause?? is it the high dosage tablets ??

further evaluation needed...

Hello XXXXXXX Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...
I can understand your concern for your mother...

Well, first of all, as per your description, the tablets are changed one year back, so these recent-onset symptoms aren't likely to be due to them...

However, a thorough evaluation is definitely required considering the progressive nature of the complaints (first only one hand, now both hands involvement)...

This could be due to certain nerve entrapment at the cervical spine level or any type of electrolytes/metabolic disturbances/even rapid fluctuations of blood sugar levels in the tissue level (or some other disturbances)...

I'd suggest a thorough clinical evaluation by her doctor/any Internal Medicine Specialist in the locality as a first thing, followed by a few basic investigations i.e. CBC, Electrolytes, FBS, PPBS, HbA1c, Serum Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3 levels check-up to look into it further...further management can be done based on the findings...

Let me know if I can assist you further...

Take Care
Kind Regards
