Question: Hi,
I am 17 weeks pregnant. My 12 weeks scan report shows- " Lower edge of placenta extends upto the internal os". The distance is 0.14cm. I am planning to travel to my mom home. By train it takes 8 hrs. Is it advisable to travel now? If so, what precautions should I take?

Brief Answer:
Get a repeat ultrasound scan done to see placental position.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
After 12 weeks, usually the uterus enlarges and placenta shifts away from os. To confirm this it is best to have an ultrasound scan now and check the present placental position.
In case there is no episode of bleeding or pain in lower abdomen till now and ultrasound scan report is normal then you can travel after proper examination by your gynecologist to rule out any possibility of complications.
Do carry all your medicines including those for vomiting. Avoid travelling locally by auto, etc. Avoid spicy food and prefer homemade food only.
Hope this answers your question.
Any follow up queries are welcome.
Regards.

Thank you Doctor.
Presently I am about to travel in next 2 days. I dont want to stress myself in the last minutes of my travel by going for a scan. Till now I don't have any bleeding or spotting. I planned to go by train so that I can lie down though out my journey by not much stressing. Not going for scan at last minute will be fine with no bleeding or spotting and lying down through out my journey?

Brief Answer:
It is better to get yourself evaluated before the journey.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Without a scan we cannot be sure of the placental position and it can pose a risk. It is better to take all precautions and get yourself properly evaluated before the journey.
Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.
