Question : hi! ive been restricting calories for a few weeks trying to lose weight. not too bad, about 1600 a day... im about 50 pounds overweight... 5%E2%80%997 and 200lbs... this morning i woke up very hungry, painfully... and eating wont make it go away... to the point of a mild headache. my father and grandfather both had diabetes. i had my numbers checked and my A1C was 5.4 and fasting morning glucose 115... this was late january... can the body just give up overnight and become diabetic? could this be why im so hungry? im also a bit stressed, and i am trying to lose weight.
im quite nervous... i dont get why i feel so hungry... even after i ate a protein shake and yogurt with honey and almonds.

                                    Brief Answer:
About low blood sugar...
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone through your concern in details!
The symptoms you described couldn't be due to hyperglycemia but due to low blood sugar or hypoglycemia.
In cases of calorie restriction, low blood sugar levels can happen and are manifested with hunger, headache, that can persist even after taking sugar.
Please note, Diabetes cannot be caused within 1 night.
Do not worry, try to eat every 2 hours with not a total carbohydrate restriction.
Hope the information will help.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best wishes,
Dr. Mirjeta
