Question : hi, just wondering, I have a problem with urine leaking when i cough. ive had an asthma flare up and this is when i noticed it. i also have problems with stopping the flow of urine. could a cyst in my spine be causing this? what should i ask my doctor when i see him next about this? what kind of treatments are available? many thanks, XXXXXXX

Based on the symptoms of leakage of urine while coughing (Stress incontinence of urine) is common in females however you have mentioned your gender to be male in your query.

Please clarify your gender Assuming that you are 36 years old female. The leakage of urine while coughing is termed as Stress Incontinence of urine (SIU) and is due to two factors:

1) Increased intraabdominal pressure during coughing
2) A weakness of Pelvic Floor Muscles

You need to consult qualified Urologist for a clinical examination to assess the tone of the Urethral Sphincter muscle He may advise to do an endoscopic examination of the bladder and assess the grade of incontinence (Stamy's test)

Doing Kegel Exercises for 30 minutes twice daily will help to increase the tone of the urethral sphincter.

Take tab Darifenacin once daily will help to reduce the symptoms...

Further treatment will be decided by concerned Urologist depending upon clinical findings and endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy)
