Posted on Mon, 13 May 2019
Question: hi, my stools are always brow in colour but I have noticed they often contain very dark brown patches. On closer inspection these are harder sticky bits not tarry or glistening. Nothing to do with diet as have been on no fibre for two days. Is this ok?

Brief Answer:
Clotted blood

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

What is your age and gender? Are you on any medication for any other problem?
Do you have pain or difficulty while passing stools? or do you have hard stools?
The harder sticky dark brown patches can be blood clots.
When you donot have fibre in the food, you tend to bleed.
Add fibre to the food and drink more water, if the dark patches disappear they are blood clots.
If you still have the dark patches, then you need to get a stool microscopy to understand the nature of them.

No pain and very soft to pass but well formed. Is this sinister then?
