Question: hi, so im a little embarrassed to ask however every time i urinate, when im finished and stand up more comes out with out me being able to feel it. im wondering why? at the moment im being evaluated for ms, as my doc says I have many symptoms and i also have a syrinx in c6/7. these are my other symptoms Weak legs upper Mild numbness in my face Chest pain like a band across my stomach Vertigo Frequent utis Over flow after urinating Daily headaches Migraines Fatigue (extreme) Pain Numbness in limbs Cramps in feet tremors in hands brain scans have been normal but my neurosurgeon is sending me for a scan on my spine soon just wondering what your thoughts are please. thank you

I have noted your details. Syrinx can cause symptoms such as numbness, tingling, pain, weakness and urinary symptoms. Detailed MRI of spine would help in finding out the extent and size of syrinx, and to see if it is putting pressure on the spine nerves.

If the syrinx is large, surgery may be needed. For small syrinx, surgery is usually not advised.

MRI would also help in detecting any other disease that could be causing your symptoms.

hi thank you so much. I am under a neurosurgeon who is sending me for a spinal mri soon. I had a cervical mri about 6 months ago and they found the 13 mm long syrinx there. I believe it is about 4 mm wide. He thinks its too small to operate. I have a couple more questions. just wondering if a syrinx can cause a tight band of pain across your chest like a squeezing pain (pain raits about an 9 out of 10 when that happens) and across your stomach? The stomach pain was a new symptom this morning and it wasn't wind or hunger pain. Also Im just wondering if a traumatic child birth could have set off symptoms for the syrinx as it never seemed to bother me since before the birth of my first child.. I have included some images for your consideration. The report also mentions no Chiari Type 1 malformation. Is this correct? thank you so much for your opinion. Laila.

I have seen the MRI images, and I agree it is too small to be operated. The syrinx can cause pain over chest or abdomen, depending on its location and mechanical pressure over nerves.

There is no Chiari type I malformation in the current images.

thank you so much for taking the time to look at my images. have started hydrotherapy to help mnanage symptoms but other than that what can i do to help pain wise?
