                                    Brief Answer:
No specific prophylaxis for the prevention of HSV 1 infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Ask A Doctor.
Thanks for posting your query.
HSV is not a life threatening one.
HSV 1 is a common infection in any community to the extent of 30 to 40%.
There is no absolute prophylaxis to prevent the transmission of HSV infection. Avoid intimacy during any episode, and 7 days following the episode as viral shedding will be there.
Taking Acyclovir tablets daily could prevent the new infection, but not recommended usually.
HSV 1 can be transmitted to genitals through oral sex.

                                    Brief Answer:
Infection can be transmitted in the absence of manifestations
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
It is not correct that HSV present in saliva. It will be there in the posterior ganglion of sensory nerves.
Viral shedding could be there before and after the episodes and the infection can be transmitted even in the absence of manifestations. I don't want to frighten you.
At the same time, many couples are living happily without getting trouble because of HSV recurrence.
Not to worry.
It is not a dangerous disease.

So is posible to get infected with HSV-1 in genitals too even if there is oral already? I read that is unlikely to get infected again with HSV-1 if theres is in the mouth.

                                    Brief Answer:
Already infected person is unlikely to get reinfected.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
I mean the transmission of HSV 1 infection from the infected partner to the genitals of a uninfected partner through oral sex.
Already infected individual will not get reinfected through oral sex till their antibodies in their circulation, at least for few years (10 years or more).
In your case there is likelihood of your partner get infected from you through oral sex with her as you are already infected with HSV 1.
But it is not a serious thing to be worried.
Moreover Medicine is not mathematics to get a constant answer. We can not predict the outcome always.
