Detailed Answer:
Hello There,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...

I've gone through your query and understand your concerns...

First of all, please note that most of the available antihypertensives are having some amount of cough as a side effect...However, there are a few other class of antihypertensives which doesn't produce this (eg. some newer generation of Calcium Channel Blockers like Nicardipine and Cilnidipine, diuretics like Furosemide etc.)...

Well, given your clinical history, sometimes we need to assess the risk-benefit ratio, and if it's not affecting daily activities, not worsening any further then perhaps it'll be better to continue with Irbesartan (as the blood pressure lowering properties and long-term effects of it is much superior compared to those others)...

However, please discuss with your treating doctor regarding those other options to decide further...

As for the Aliskiren is concerned, if you're referring to the brand name Avapro, no, it doesn't contain Aliskiren. Moreover, Aliskiren and Irbesartan both are having quite a similar type of effects hence not prescribed together.

If not Avapro, kindly let me know which brand name the Pharmacy has given to you so that I can let know accordingly.

Hope you find this useful...

Please let me know if I can assist you further...

Take Care
Kind Regards
