Regarding Keratosis Pilaris and HSV infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.
Keratosis Pilaris (KPs) are common in those with dry skin.. They are raised, follicular, grouped and give a rough appearance to the skin when felt. Those who have KPs frequently also complain of itching, perhaps that is the reason that he picks at his skin. You must use a soothing moisturizer e.g those with colloidal oatmeal.
HSV 2 on the other hand presents with sores or ulcers rather than the rough appearing skin resulting from KPs. Unfortunately I haven't received any image. I request you to kindly upload images of the affected areas in " Reports Section" so that I am able to have a look.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

 Just a scratch

thank you.
I have viewed the image. This is just an erosion perhaps from scratching. This is not herpes. I suggest you to use Neosporin ointment, twice daily.
Take care.
